One of a kind, this elegant & fine bee necklace pendant necklace, inspired by the ancient Greek Malia honey bee pendants from the island of Crete. The pendant is handcrafted in 14 karats solid yellow gold while the chain is crafted in 18k gold.
The Bee pendant is one of the most famous exhibits in the Herakleion Museum, on the island of Crete in Greece.
It has been found in the Old Palace cemetery at Chrysolakkos, outside the Palace of Malia, the third-largest Minoan palace.
The pendant dates back to the Bronze Age, to the Protopalatial Period (1800 - 1700 BC) and it's an amazing, very detailed representation of two bees carrying a drop of honey to their honeycomb.
The pendant measures width 4,5cm (1 2/3") x 4cm (1 1/2") heigh with a bail, the chain is 40cm (15 2/3"). Weights approx. 8g.
The pendant is stamped 585 for 14k gold and 2890 for the collection number. The chain is stamped 750 for 18k gold and some letters/figures that I cannot identify, probably a designer hallmark.
